Liverpool residents will receive an important letter in the coming week to make sure they are eligible to vote in this year’s elections.
The letter asks residents to check and – where necessary – update their details held on the electoral register and make sure that all eligible voters in their household are registered.
This will allow residents to vote in the General and Local Council elections taking place on Thursday 7 May 2015.
The way people register to vote changed in 2014 to a new system called Individual Electoral Registration (IER).
In the past, one person was responsible for registering everyone who lived in a household. Now, if you are registering for the first time or re-registering, you need to do it yourself. The new system also means that people are able to register online for the first time at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
