Merseyside Polonia celebrates 4th birthday

Merseyside Polonia celebrated its 4th Birthday with a concert of classical Polish music

On Sunday 9th June 2013, Merseyside Polonia celebrated its 4th birthday with an excellent performance by two Polish artists.

On this special day, Aleksander Kunach, an opera singer gifted with a beautiful lyrical tenor voice, was accompanied by pianist Beata Szebesczyk for a Sunday evening recital. The artists gave a very touching and lyrical performance and offered the audience a chance to listen to a variety of Polish classical compositions by Fryderyk Chopin, Karol Szymanowski and others. Compositions were sung to the words of some of the greatest Polish poets.

The event took place in the charming and intimate Rodewald Suite in Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Many honorable and distinguished guests attended this special occasion, including, Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside Dame Lorna Muirhead, Lord Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Gary Millar and Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester Mr. Łukasz Lutostański.

Between the first and second half of the concert, Gosia McKane, the founder and director of Mereyside Polonia, thanked all the guests who attended the celebrations, along with all the volunteers who helped the organisation throughout the year.

Volunteers also took to the stage and talked about some of Merseyside Polonia’s past events and achievements, emphasizing the variety of activities the organisation undertakes: from Christmas workshops for children to literary events, and concerts by renowned musicians.

The beautiful and lyrical evening finished with a ‘Happy Birthday’ sung both in Polish and English together by all the guests, highlighting Merseyside Polonia’s proud mission statement: to develop and improve relations between Polish and local communities in the Merseyside area.
