New bus timetables and services for September

A high number of new and revised bus services and timetables including the introduction of a simpler, clearer bus network plus new additions with 24/7 and night bus services have been introduced on Merseyside.

Timetables are changing on 4th and 5th September and while the majority of customer information available has been updated including online, the process of updating timetables at over 3,000 bus stops across Merseyside is still ongoing.

If you live in Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens or Wirral this might mean your local bus stop timetable may not be updated when the change takes place. This is partly due to a high volume of timetable changes for September and represents a significant amount of work.

However, the majority of information has been updated and customers are being advised to rely on journey apps, online information, leaflets and posters while bus stop timetables continue to be updated.

The reviews are one of the key work areas of the Bus Alliance which is seeing Merseytravel, Arriva and Stagecoach work together to transform bus services to encourage more people to take the bus. However, network reviews involve all bus operators in the area that is under review.

This month, customers will also benefit from new services with a 24/7 service and a night bus.

Arriva and Stagecoach are running buses 24/7 on the 86 and 86A starting on Sunday 4 September 2016 – that’s all day, every day, all night, every night.

Stagecoach will run the 86 between Liverpool One and Penny Lane only, while the Arriva 86A will extend to Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

From 9th September, Stagecoach will be running night buses on the gold service 1/N1 between Liverpool and Chester.

Director for Corporate Development Liz Chandler said: “September timetable changes are always a challenge to complete, however, we have experienced an unprecedented number this year.

“We have put a plan in place and we are working very hard to complete the bus stop timetables as soon as possible because we recognise that this could be both confusing and frustrating for customers and we appreciate their cooperation during this time.

“The new additions to the bus offer are very welcome and we will continue to work with bus operators and partners to deliver significant improvements for bus users.”
