The brand new Epstein Theatre is well into its first official opening season and with a successful September under the theatres belt and October set to build upon a winner first month. The first ever season following the £1m restoration of the old Neptune Theatre which has been renamed after one of Liverpool’s most-loved sons and Beatles Manager Brian Epstein.
October opens with Liverpool mainstay Laughterhouse Comedy on the Road who throughout the month will be hosting two evenings with the best local laughter labourers and national comedic talents. Sunday 7th of October will see Richard Herring and his hit one man show Talking C**k take to the stage in as the show returns on for its tenth anniversary and exposes the truth about men and their flutes of Love. Laughterhouse Comedy will return to the Epstein Theatre on 27th October with another night of naughtiness with Neil Fitzmaurice taking to the mic as he hosts a night with Justin Moorhouse and a very special Guest Comedian.
Comedy isn’t the only entertainment on the menu as one of October’s highlights is an evening the finest leading lady in Irish music today as Dervish are set to perform live as part of Liverpool Irish Festival. On Thursday 11th of October the ever distinctive voice of Cathy Jordan will fill the theatre with the combined finesse and subtlety which will make this live performance the true way to experience Ireland’s most enduring bands. 26th October will see The Martini Lounge returns to their new home in what is set to be another night of sizzling burlesque performances. With glamorous costumes, variety, comedy and vocal acts are part of the program all carefully crafted by Liverpool’s own Millie Dollar and is one of the must-see burlesque events in the UK.
Harking back to Liverpool’s roots The Epstein is pleased to be hosting Clubland To The Theatre where ,on 25th – 26th October , the finest performers who got their big break doing the rounds in the working men’s clubs come together to provide two nights of traditional entertainment. Just a few guests lined up include rock’n’roll band Mike Byrne and the Sunrockers , one of Merseyside’s best known soul and Motown The Detroits and Pauline Daniels, a women who needs no introduction and undeniably the best comedienne and actress to come out of Merseyside
In keeping with the their promise of bringing the very best in unique theatrical experiences to the city The Epstein Theatre will be hosting several night the very best in niche entertainment. A book reading by Mike Scott will be taking place on 9th October where The Waterboys’ front man will be marking the launch of his memoir Adventures Of A Waterboy on stage with an intimate concert including a reading from the book followed by an acoustic set with fiddler Steve Wickham. We also have two evenings with acclaimed British Eccentrics as Mike Livesley and Neil Innes take to the stage in two very different performances in How Nice! To Be in England⦔ and Liverpool’s favourite Jazz performer Mr Alan Cross will be bringing his brand new one night show Smokey Martini for what is set to be the coolest and grooviest night in town.
Bringing October to a close are two Halloween events with a difference. Garage rock will grow fangs on 20th October as Liverpool cult figure Don Newton take to the stage for the ultimate Halloween bash where, in the decadent surroundings of the Epstein Theatre and hot on the heels of his previous endeavors – the Horror Blues Halloween Ball and Malice in Wonderland –, Don will be premiering his latest creation – Barrington Fanshaw: Man of God.
Finally on Halloween night the Liverpool Philharmonic’s Ensemble 10/10 will be performing a unique reinterpretation of Frankenstein!! Conducted by Clark Rundell ,who gets the new 10/10 series off to a flamboyant start, this is a Halloween event with a pop culture twist as audiences prepare to enter the world of HK Gruber’s Frankenstein!! Straight from the maverick mind of Gruber this is a tale of Superman’s missing pants, rats turning into angels, the mad Doctors and drunken waltz, even Elvis doesn’t get off lightly in Michael Daugherty’s outrageous neon’n’chrome dance of death. North West-based composer Ivor Hodgson turns a kindlier eye on the classics in his brand new A Little Light Music, while back in 1923, Edgard Varèse’s Octandre sees it all coming with ice-cool clarity.
In addition to this stellar lineup is Brian’s Bar – a stunning space to relax throughout the day over a drink, pastry or savoury snack, overlooking the hustle and bustle of Hanover Street and will be open from 2pm – 11pm Monday to Saturday and houses its own programme of events with exhibitions, live music and poetry evenings all in the works.
There will also an exclusive member’s only club The 11 O’Clock Club, where the city’s creative Industries can come together from 11pm until 3am Thursday, Friday and Saturday creating a constant hive of activity at the Hanover Street venue.
