Past proves popular

Steve BinnsChildwall residents showed their interest in their past by turning out in force for a local history event.

It was the latest session at the Friday Morning Community Café, St David’s Church.

Community historian Steve Binns (pictured left) spoke about the history of the area and  representatives from the Liverpool Records Office and Liverpool and  the  South West Lancashire Family History Society were on hand with local history materials and  provided advice on research.

Local Councillor Jeremy Wolfson, said: “We had a fantastic turnout for this event , probably one of the highest in the three  years the community café has been running.

“And I am sure that they learned a lot – either about the fascinating history of our area or tips on researching their family tree.

“As well as giving huge thanks to Steve Binns for his highly entertaining talk  we would also like to thank  Alan Smith at St George’s Hall for helping to organise the event, to Roger Hull ,the research officer from the City Council’s archives service, and Liverpool and S W Lancashire Family History Society for their tremendous support.”

The community café is supported by Childwall councillors Jeremy Wolfson, Liz Parsons and Frank Hont.
