Popular winter warmer

An event at a community café to help people cope with the worst of the weather proved to be very popular.

The free winter warmer event took place at St David’s Church Friday Café, Childwall.

It was the latest in a series of community events at the café, set up using the Neighbourhood Fund allocation for local Councillors Ruth Hirschfield, Frank Hont and Jeremy Wolfson and which has run successfully for more than two years.

Councillor Wolfson said: “We had a very good turn-out of local residents , which was very pleasing , as there was a lot of advice about keeping warm, safe and healthy in the winter as well as information about energy costs.

“It is really important that ,as we are coming up to the colder months we let older and more vulnerable people know how best to cope with winter.”

At the community event there was information on a wide  range of subjects including energy efficiency, switching energy supplier, fuel poverty  and benefits. A free prize draw was also held.
