Queen Square bus station resurfacing – changes to services

Resurfacing works on the carriageway of Queen Square bus station will commence on Sunday 24 January 2016, affecting passengers travelling in and out of the city centre.

The first phase of the work will affect the ‘downhill’ carriageway of the bus station. During this phase, stands 9-12 and the alighting stop (outside the Royal Court Theatre) will be out of use.

Bus services that normally call at these stands will drop off passengers at the Whitechapel alighting stop and pick up passengers at a temporary bus stop on Victoria St car park. These include the following numbers going to the following destinations:

47 – Crossens

53 – Crosby

300 – Southport

310 – Skelmersdale

345 – Waddicar

838 – Liverpool Freeport (Seaforth)

X2 – Southport/Preston

With the Queen Square bus station ‘alighting only’ bus stop out of use, services coming into the bus station to drop off passengers will also be affected. The list of services below will tell you where your bus will stop on the way into the city centre:

London Road

Services entering the city centre via London Road will drop off passengers at the Commutation Row bus stop (the top of William Brown Street) then travel via the flyover onto Dale Street where they will rejoin their usual routes. These include the following numbers arriving from the following destinations:

8/9 – Huyton

10/10B – Huyton/St Helens (10A – see below)

12/13 – Stockbridge Village

14/14A/14B – Croxteth/Tower Hill/Knowsley Village

15 – Huyton

17 – Aintree Hospital/Gilmoss/Kirkby

18 – Croxteth Park

19 – Gillmoss/Croxteth/Kirkby (Admin)

21 – Kirkby, Northwood

58 – Netherton

78 – Halewood

Brownlow Hill/Mount Pleasant/Renshaw Street

Services entering the city centre via Brownlow Hill/Mount Pleasant/Renshaw Street will drop off passengers at the usual bus stops until Queen Square then will divert via St Johns Lane and drop off passengers at the Whitechapel alighting bus stop. Services that continue beyond Queen Square will run via Crosshall
Street then their usual routes. These include the following numbers arriving from the following destinations:

6/7/7A – Huyton/Warrington

14/14A/14B – Widnes/Runcorn Murdishaw (Halton Transport)

61/61A – Rainhill/Widnes/Runcorn Murdishaw

79C/79D – Netherley/Halewood/Runcorn Murdishaw

139 – Prescot/St Helens

Other affected services are listed below:

Routes 10A from St Helens and C5 from the Royal Liverpool University Hospital will operate as normal to London Road then calling at the usual Lime Street (Wetherspoons) alighting stop then via St Johns Lane to drop off at the Whitechapel alighting stop.

Routes 30/30A to/from Netherton/Maghull (Ashworth Hospital) will pick up and drop off passengers at the Victoria Street car park temporary bus stop.

Routes 82D/86D from Garston will operate as normal to Renshaw Street (calling at Lewis’s bus stop) then via Lime Street to the Commutation Row bus stop (the top of William Brown Street) then via the flyover onto Dale Street and usual route to Liverpool ONE bus station.

Route 101 from the Royal Liverpool University Hospital will operate as normal to London Road then drop off passengers at the Commutation Row bus stop (the top of William Brown Street) then via the flyover onto Dale Street, then Sir Thomas Street, calling at stop SB.

Route 25 Sightseeing Liverpool: the closest alternative bus stop to Queen Square Bus Station is in William Brown Street, outside the museum.

The buses using stands 1-8 will be unaffected during the first phase of works.
