Quit smoking in Stoptober

Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust (LCH) Health Promotion Team are helping people to stop smoking this October.

Stoptober is the 28 day challenge which supports the nation’s eight million smokers to stop smoking.

Liverpool Health Promotion Stoptober Roadshows will be running throughout late September and early October to help anyone looking to kick the habit.

Smoking is still our biggest preventable killer: in England 80,000 people die each year because of smoking, so stopping smoking is the single best thing a person can do for their health.

The sessions will be an opportunity to find out more about the Stoptober campaign and the Smokefree cars legislation which will comes into effect in October. There will also be the chance to seek help and advice to help you stop smoking.

The Stoptober Roadshows will take place on the following dates:
•         Tuesday 29 September, 9.00am-11.30am, Breeze Hill Neighbourhood Centre
•         Wednesday 30 September, 9.00am-11.30am, Childwall Fiveways Neighbourhood Centre
•         Thursday 1 October, 11.30am-1.30pm, Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital

The start of Stoptober this year coincides with the introduction of new legislation in England and Wales making it illegal to smoke in vehicles with someone under the age of 18 present. The law is changing to protect children from the dangers of second-hand smoke and will come into effect on 1st October.

Andy Ireland, Health Promotion Specialist at LCH said: “Stopping smoking is the biggest thing you can do to benefit your health, with 50% of smokers dying early. So whether you’re looking to prevent future ill health, increase your energy and improve your breathing or would simply like more money in your pocket why not pop in and see what the Team can do to help you.”

Andy added “Over three quarters of a million people have already taken part in the nation’s biggest quit attempt since it began and research shows that stopping smoking for 28 days means you’re five times more likely to stop for good. Come along to one of our Stoptober Roadshows to get help and support and kick the habit”.
