Roadworks to begin at city centre junction

A £1.3m upgrade of a major Liverpool city centre junction is to begin tomorrow (Wednesday, 12 October).

Liverpool City Council is investing the money on the Islington (A580) / St Anne Street junction to resurface the road, upgrade the traffic lights and street lighting.

The junction, which sits less than half a mile from Lime Street train station, is used for traffic bound for the city centre to and from north Liverpool.

To minimise disruption, major elements of the works will be carried out overnight between 7pm and 6am with off-peak lane restrictions in effect each day from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Expected to complete by the end of January 2017, the project will be suspended from Friday, 25 November in line with the city’s annual Christmas road works embargo until Monday, 9 January 2017.

The upgrade to this junction is part of Liverpool City Council’s wider £250m Better Roads programme to improve the city’s road infrastructure.

Current key schemes of the Better Roads programme include a £32m upgrade to the A565.
