The fun and excitement of Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon & 1/2 Marathon is expanding into a high-energy festival weekend through a new partnership with Camp and Furnace, and a brilliant finish line concert featuring Marc Almond.
The official race weekend celebration begins at the Launch Party at Camp and Furnace on Friday evening from 19.00hrs – 02.00hrs. The event is held exclusively for participants who have access to the party for free. After running or cheering on friends at the new Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K on Saturday, families can load up on carbs before Sunday’s events at the Kids Food Slam in The Furnace from 11.00 – 17.00hrs, featuring arts and craft activities, street food stalls, mocktails, pizza making, mini disco and more.
Race Director, Rob Griffiths said: “Last year’s inaugural race was a huge success and we knew we needed to make this year even bigger. It doesn’t get any bigger than a brand new Running & Endurance Show, a second day of running and a weekend of festivities at Camp and Furnace. We also look forward to bringing Echo Arena to life with an epic performance by Marc Almond and other local bands.”
The weekend comes to an end with roast dinner specials followed by a celebratory Closing Party at the Furnace with live music including an encore performance by Marc Almond, supported by The 45’s and Rob Vincent. Booking for the Roast is essential, please call 0151 708 2890 or email reservations@campandfurnace.com and quote booking code ‘Rock and Roll Roast’ to qualify for discount. Prior to the Camp and Furnace Closing Party, Marc Almond will headline Sunday’s finish line concert in front of Echo Arena for more than 12,000 runners and thousands of spectators and supporters. Almond is an internationally acclaimed and successful artist. He has sold over 30 million records worldwide and is an icon and influence to a generation of musicians. He was previously part of the famed ‘Soft Cell’ that had a number of top ten hits including the international classic Tainted Love.
Tainted Love broke all records as the track that remained the longest in the US Billboard Top 100 and received a Brit award for best single of that year.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool weekend kicks off on Friday 12th June with a two-day Running & Endurance Show at Echo Arena, where all runners will collect their race pack and explore the latest and greatest in running gear, product samples and interactive clinics.
Saturday’s new 5K will start and finish at Echo Area, running along the waterfront to the iconic Liver Building and back. Sunday’s marathon, half marathon and 1-mile run will once again start and finish by the Albert Dock, one of the most visited attractions in the UK and a World Heritage Site. The races will feature scenic views of
Liverpool’s stunning docks, rich architecture, spectacular museums and historic commercial districts. In true Rock ‘n’ Roll fashion, live bands and cheering spectators will line the route, concluding with a celebratory finish line festival and concert in front of the Echo Arena.
