School Improvement Liverpool update

A review has been carried out of School Improvement Liverpool (SIL), as part of a wider rethink of Council-owned companies.

It follows a recommendation from Max Caller in his ‘Best Value’ inspection report of Liverpool City Council, published in March 2021.

The Cabinet has now agreed that all statutory services delivered by SIL will return to Liverpool City Council. This will allow for greater alignment of services against the Council’s priorities.

SIL will continue to offer non-statutory support to schools as it does now under its ‘traded services’ model and continue to provide historic DFE grant funded support, specific to SIL, to schools.

Work will now get under way planning the best way to disaggregate the relevant functions and devising a future delivery model. The Council’s contract with SIL has been extended until August 2025 to allow time for the work to be carried out.

Staff will be kept informed as the work progresses.
