In response to Liverpool City Council Chief Executive Ged Fitzgerald’s role as former Chief Executive of Rotherham Council from 2001-2003, Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said:
“I have today met with all political group leaders on the city council to discuss how to approach the arrangements for a future meeting with Ged Fitzgerald in relation to his tenure as Chief Executive of Rotherham MBC from 2001-2003.
“Arising from today’s meeting, arrangements will now be made, with Mr Fitzgerald’s full agreement and cooperation, for myself and the group leaders to meet directly with Mr Fitzgerald to discuss his role at Rotherham.
“I have agreed with the party leaders, and Mr Fitzgerald, that I will arrange for the meeting to be overseen by a well-respected individual who is independent of the city council, to act as chair. Due to other leaders’ leave arrangements, I expect this to take place within 3-4 weeks.
“I will make a further statement once that meeting has taken place.”
