Liverpool residents over the age of 60 are invited to a free road safety event in the city centre later this month.
Research has found that, while road collisions have decreased by 48 per cent over the past five years those involving older drivers have increased by 5 per cent.
The free event, created by Liverpool City Council’s Road Safety team, is designed to help senior road users stay safe when travelling around the city, whether they’re drivers, pedestrians, cyclists or using public transport.
It will take place on Thursday 23 October from 10am-2.30pm at the Holiday Inn on Lime Street.
Expert speakers from the Council, Merseyside Police, Arriva Buses and Merseytravel will be on hand during the event to provide tips and advice tailored to over 60s.
There will also be a number of stalls offering support and guidance, including reminders on the minimum eyesight standards and how to access public transport to the full.
Refreshments and a buffet lunch will be provided for all attendees.
People can reserve their place by emailing road.safety@liverpool.gov.uk, calling 0151 351 1365 or visiting the Council website.
Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity said: “As we age, a number of factors come into play that increase the chance of being involved in a road accident.
“Staying safe while travelling in the city matters, whether you walk, cycle or drive. Our road safety event offers a relaxed way to learn practical tips to protect yourself and others and to travel more confidently.”
