The Summer Arts Market, now in its fourth year, is returning to St George’s Hall on 25 & 26 June 2016.
A modern arts and crafts fair featuring more than 130 artists, designers and makers, the two days of the market offer a truly unique independent shopping experience that’s not to be missed.
The market is a great way for emerging artists, designers and makers to showcase their work and for customers to support the local creative economy. Many of this year’s stallholders are from Merseyside and the surrounding areas. For lovers of retro clothing, jewellery and homewares, there will also be a Vintage Fair in the historic Heritage Centre at the south end of the building.
Just some of the 130+ artists include:
Samantha Jervis creates beautiful pottery that is handmade from start to finish. Made from white or terracotta earthenware, her work is mostly unique and one of a kind – she rarely makes multiples in the same shape or colour. Her range covers everything from mugs and functional kitchen ware to small pieces of ceramic jewellery.
Tim Matthews paints original oil paintings of cats, figurative work and English country interiors. He won the BBC Little Painting challenge last year and has since painted a number of commissions. His work is available framed, as limited edition prints and in card form.
Charlotte Hicks graduated from The Manchester School of Art in 2015 with a degree in Illustration. Her illustrations are inspired by the natural world and focus on landscapes, botanics and British wildlife.
Hannah Ng Vespertine Cosmos is a romantic novelty jewellery brand, inspired by fairytales and all things magical with a touch of vintage style. Hannah uses a variety of materials, from natural gem stones to modeling clay. All pieces are handmade and limited edition.
Kate Chesters is an artist working in The Cave studio on Victoria Street, Liverpool. She mainly makes paintings with the landscape as the subject – either abstract in style or semi-realist, working with both acrylic and watercolour paint.
Samantha Whittingham has been sewing for 10 years and makes handmade bags, make up bags, clutch bags and gifts such as pom poms from materials such as leather, faux leather, cotton and wool.
Once again there will also be a craft lab workshop for kids (and the young at heart), hosted by KECS Creative’s Super Silly Scientists. Harness the elements, and your creativity, and make a Whizzy Waterproof Windmill for your garden from recycled materials.
Shoppers can also relax and enjoy locally sourced food and drink while looking out over historic Lime Street from the café at the East Portico.
The Summer Arts Market is organised by Liverpool social enterprise Open Culture, who have been partnering with St George’s Hall to stage the Summer and Winter Arts Markets annually since 2009. Charlotte Corrie, Director of Open Culture said: “It’s always amazing to see so much fantastic work in one place and we’re looking forward to giving the public the opportunity to buy beautiful pieces directly from their creators. It truly is a unique shopping experience in the incredible Grade I-listed surroundings of St Georges Hall.”
