Swimmers chosen for world championships

Two City of Liverpool Swimmers have been selected for the Great Britain team to compete in the World Championships in Barcelona.

Michael Rock and Francesca Halsall, members of the City of Liverpool Swimming Club, are part of a 27-strong GB Team who will be competing in the championships which start on 19 July.

Their selection comes following victories in the British Gas Swimming Championships and World Championship Trials in Sheffield,.

British Swimming Head Coach Bill Furniss has described the national  as focused on current form and Olympic events.

“This is British Swimming’s new philosophy following London and the clear message that came back from UK Sport in terms of a focusday5_michael_rock requirement on Olympic events.

“Generally, there is a good mix of experience and up and coming talent which is important as we look forward. For the younger athletes they will be able to learn a great deal from both the event itself as well as their more experienced team mates.

“I believe this tighter focus for the team will give us every chance to succeed at the World Championships.”
