Liverpool City Council has joined forces with environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy to #BintheButt to stamp out cigarette litter, which causes significant damage to marine life in the River Mersey.
People who refused to pay £80 fines for dropping litter in Liverpool have been found guilty in court and face being hit in the pocket with a bill almost FOUR times the cost of the fixed penalty notice.
Liverpool is to adopt a zero tolerance approach to people who litter in the city with an increase in the number of staff empowered to carry out enforcement.
