Tall Ship sails into city for the winter

LIVERPOOL’S Albert Dock is set to have a new attreaction from Friday (9 November).

The Tall Ship, Stavros S Niarchos, which is owned by the Tall Ships Youth Trust, will be berthed in the Albert Dock  for the winter season.

The 200ft Tall Ship will be located in Liverpool’s popular waterfront destination and will be an exciting attraction for visitors. She will be open for ship visits to the public on selected dates for visitors to explore her magnificent decks and learn more about a modern day square rigged brig.

She will also be available for visits of school children, youth groups, DofE students and groups such as Scouts & Guiding.  Stavros S Niarchos boasts a unique venue and has the perfect space for corporate events for up to 80 guests.

Tim Law, Marketing & Operations Director said ”This is a fantastic opportunity for the Tall Ships Youth Trust and we are excited to spend the winter season in Liverpool. Without the support of Liverpool’s City Council and The Canal & River Trust, this would not be possible. ”

Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for culture and tourism, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “We’re delighted to be giving this beautiful vessel a home for the winter and it is sure to be a popular addition to Canning Dock.

“During the forthcoming months, schools, community groups, businesses and visitors to the city will all have wonderful opportunities to explore this iconic Tall Ship, and learn more about life at sea.”

Sue Grindrod Chair of Albert Dock Liverpool added: “Each time Albert Dock host a Tall Ship, it evokes memories of the Dock’s important maritime heritage, we are excited to be able to welcome such an impressive vessel for our visitors to enjoy over the winter months.”
