Village’s Christmas treat

West Derby will be getting into the festive spirit with a special Christmas community day – complete with Santa’s reindeers.

The centrepiece of the day – on Saturday 1 December – will be a be a Christmas Market at the Sefton Arms car park(9am – 2pm) with stalls selling fresh produced as well as Festive goods. Farmers’ breakfasts and mulled wine will be available from the Sefton Arms.

Santa’s sleigh with real reindeers will be on hand– making a great photo opportunity.

As well as the market the village’s Christmas lights will be switched on by local MP Stephen Twigg and Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Gary Millar.

Local schoolchildren will be performing carols and there will be an opportunity to view the village’s nativity scene.

And the day will also provide a chance to explore some of West Derby’s historic buildings including the 16th century court house. Those with a head for heights can take a tour of St Mary’s Church Tower – more than 160 feet high!

Collections for Zoe’s Place Hospice will be held throughout the day.

Local Councillor Lana Orr said;”There will be a lot to do for all the family and it will bring the community together while they get into the festive spirit. As well as a chance to get some Christmas bargains and enjoy some great entertainment we will also be raising money for a very worthwhile cause.”
