Liverpool has played host to nearly 2,000 gymnasts as the British Ministrada Festival held at Lifestyles Everton Park last weekend (8-9 November).
It attracted a sell out crowd from across the UK with every level of ability from novice to international represented.
Of the 30 clubs taking part the city was proudly represented by HPL based at Lifestyles Peter Lloyd and Everton Park Gym Club who won the prestigious ‘Best Use of Colour’ award. The overall winner was Middlesbrough GC who delivered an edgy, emotive and technically superb routine.
On Saturday the National Disabilities Squad received a rowdy standing ovation for a performance of skill and innovation.
This discipline combines the power and precision of gymnastics with the drama and artistry of the theatre. Most people would be familiar with Britain’s Got Talent Winners Infinity – probably its most well known exponent.
Assistant Mayor Councillor Wendy Simon, attended the event. She said: “The performances were not only visually striking but clearly technically excellwnt. The whole Festival had a Carnival-like feel around it, while still retaining the messages and pathways of developing and providing opportunity for all to participate in sport and activity.”
