Women urged to get on their citybikes

British Cycling’s Breeze network is inviting Liverpool women to use a citybike to join them for a group bike ride around the city and surrounding areas.

Breeze, a network set up by British Cycling to inspire more women to explore their local area by bike, is running a programme of group bike rides for all levels and abilities.

The Breeze bike rides, which include short midweek lunchtime and evening rides as well as more leisurely weekend rides, all start at city centre locations near popular citybike stations.

Breeze Champion Sara Braidwood, who organises the Breeze rides in Liverpool, said: “Many women feel they lack time and confidence to go on a bike ride but everyone is welcome to join us at Breeze. We go at a speed that suits everyone, and we often start or finish at a cafe so everyone can have a drink and a chat as well.

“We go out cycling on a regular basis and we are always keen to expand our group.”

Councillor Tim Beaumont, Mayoral Lead for Wellbeing, said: “The Breeze network is a great way to encourage more women to enjoy cycling. Anyone is welcome to join and now thanks to citybike, you don’t even need to own a bike to take part.”

The next Breeze bike ride will take place on Wednesday 30th March, starting at 5pm front of the Pier Head Ferry Terminal Liverpool on Mann Island. The ride along the promenade is expected to last 1 hours 45 mins and there is a citybike station next to the starting point.

It is free to join the Breeze rides and it costs from £1 per hour to hire a citybike with subscriptions available for the day, week and year. Annual members get the benefit of the first 30 minutes of every rental free and the process couldn’t be easier. All citybike users have to do is register their details online or by phone to receive a membership number and pin, which is then keyed into any citybike station to release a bike.  Special membership rates are available for students and businesses.
