World Heritage Site designation certificate taken down

Liverpool’s World Heritage Site designation certificate has now been removed from the Town Hall, following UNESCO’s decision to delete the city’s status.

The low-key ceremony was presided over by the city’s Lord Mayor earlier today.

Cllr Mary Rasmussen said: ‘It’s really sad that we’ve lost our heritage status, and that we’ve had to remove the certificate, and it’s being wrapped up now.

“This is still one of the greatest cities in the world, we’ve got our heritage, we’ve got our people – visitors will still come to see us.

“I don’t think we need the label, but I’m sad that we’re losing it anyway.”
