A new active travel scheme for Childwall has been redesigned following extensive feedback from local residents, businesses and community groups.
Liverpool City Council published proposals in March for a new walking, cycling and wheeling route stretching from the city centre to Childwall, and members of the public were asked to share their ideas on the initial designs.
The consultation generated nearly 500 responses, with strong support for the creation of safe routes for all road users.
Many respondents also shared their concerns around the proposed loss of parking, greenspaces, and the potential for increased congestion in some areas.
In response to the feedback, the Council has adjusted plans for the scheme, including a pledge to protect trees around the Childwall Triangle and the introduction of more pedestrian crossing points.
The Council will also investigate possible 20mph speed limits in certain areas, in light of points brought up by respondents.
The revised proposals will now be incorporated into the designs which will be developed further over the coming months.
The full report is available on the Council website.
Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity said: “Making our streets safer for all road users, particularly those walking, wheeling and cycling, is a priority for the Council.
“We want to make sure that people have a choice in how they travel through the city and feel confident in doing so.
“Hearing from the people who live, work, and travel through the area before we start any work is vital and I’d like to thank everyone who got involved.
“We’ve received a lot of fantastic feedback, which has helped us to shape the plans further and deliver a scheme that works for everyone.”
