Liverpool City Council and the local NHS are teaming up with Matalan to offer people the chance to ‘Grab-a-Jab’ whilst they shop.
The Matalan store on Wavertree Road will be hosting an NHS-staffed vaccination clinic in store on the following dates:
- Saturday 29 January, between 9am – 5pm
- Sunday 30 Jan, between 10.30am – 4.30pm (12+)
- Wednesday 2 Feb, between 2pm – 8pm (12+)
- Sat 5 Feb, between 9am – 5pm
First, second and booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine will be available at the site for anyone aged 16 or over, as well as first and second doses for 12-15s.
The vaccination clinic will be located to the rear of the store, and anyone from the local community is welcome to walk in and use it. No appointment is necessary- just turn up.
If someone has recently been infected with Covid-19, they need to wait for four weeks before being vaccinated – but it’s still important that they get the booster after this, because it provides greater protection against future infection.
Director of Public Health for Liverpool, Matt Ashton said: “We’re really pleased to be partnering with Matalan to help improve access to vaccination in an area of our city where take up has been lower than average – and we hope that many people will take full advantage of the offer.
“Over 100,000 people in Liverpool were vaccinated during December alone, and 13,000 of those were first or second doses – so new people are still coming forward for vaccination all the time.
“If you still haven’t been vaccinated, it’s not too late, but we’d encourage you to do it as soon as you can – we know it’s working by reducing the numbers of Covid-19 hospitalisations and deaths in our city. And if you’ve had your first and second dose but haven’t got round to getting the booster yet, please make it a priority as the booster provides excellent protection against people becoming seriously ill from Omicron too.”
Dr Fiona Lemmens, local GP and Chair of NHS Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “I particularly want to reassure those who are still feeling a little bit hesitant about having the vaccine that it’s safe, and it’s also proving very effective.
“If you do have concerns, please don’t keep them to yourself. We would encourage anyone who is feeling at all worried to speak to a medical professional such as your GP, for advice and reassurance.
“You can also come along to any of our vaccination sites and speak to a member of staff, who will be happy to discuss the benefits and anything you might be worried about. We really do want to help people to make informed choices about what’s best for their health when it comes to vaccination – so please, if you have any questions or concerns, do just ask.”
Mike Jeans, Operations Director at Matalan said: “At Matalan we’re proud to serve families up and down the UK and we’re always eager to hear of opportunities like this, where we can help do that little bit extra for our communities. We’re delighted to be offering up space in our store to help more people in the area access their vaccines and booster jabs.
“We’re continuing to operate all our stores with a wide range of measures to go above and beyond the relevant guidance to ensure it’s a safe space for shoppers and colleagues, and in our Wavertree Road store we’ll have more friendly team members on hand to help guide visitors to the vaccine area.”
If the Matalan site isn’t a convenient option, there are also a range of other local drop-in clinics happening daily across the city here: www.liverpoolccg.nhs.uk/drop-in-vaccination
Or pre-bookable appointments can be made online at:www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by calling 119.
Please note: drop-in clinics may sometimes close slightly earlier than advertised based on vaccine availability.
