Liverpool celebrates organisations leading the way as a Fairer, Healthier Marmot City

The Fairer Healthier Liverpool Partnership has recognised a wide range of organisations for their outstanding commitment to tackling health inequalities, as part of the city’s ongoing journey as a Marmot City.

At the Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Celebration Event held on Thursday 21 May at The Florrie, organisations from across the voluntary, community, faith, social enterprise (VCFSE) and public sectors were celebrated for their work in improving the building blocks of health and wellbeing.

Organisations achieving Fairer Healthier Liverpool accreditation

The following organisations were formally awarded Fairer Healthier Liverpool Accreditation, recognising their strong leadership and action to reduce health inequalities:

These organisations demonstrated a clear commitment to embedding the Marmot principles across their work, helping to create fairer opportunities, stronger communities, and improved health outcomes for Liverpool residents.

Organisations recognised for progress

A number of organisations were also commended for their progress towards accreditation, reflecting their continued efforts and positive impact:

Councillor Ruth Bennett, Deputy Leader of Liverpool City Council, said:
“Tackling inequalities is a key priority within our Council Plan, and central to our ambition to create a fairer and more inclusive Liverpool. As a council, we are committed to addressing the root causes of health inequalities, and we know this can only be achieved through strong partnerships. It’s fantastic to see so many organisations being recognised for their contribution to this shared goal.”

Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, said:
“Liverpool has always been a city that looks out for one another. These accreditations recognise organisations that are putting fairness and wellbeing at the heart of what they do. Their work is making a real difference in communities across the city, and I’m incredibly proud of what has been achieved in our first year as a Marmot City.”

Professor Matt Ashton, Director of Public Health for Liverpool, said:
“It’s inspiring to see so many organisations across Liverpool stepping up to take action on health inequalities. Achieving Fairer Healthier Liverpool Accreditation is a significant accomplishment and reflects real, tangible commitment to improving the lives of our residents. Just as important is the progress we’re seeing across partners who are embedding this work into their priorities every day.”

Liverpool’s Marmot City approach is driven by the Fairer Healthier Liverpool Partnership, which brings together partners across the city to deliver collective action on health inequalities, guided by the eight Marmot principles.

The celebration event marked one year since Liverpool became a Marmot City, providing an opportunity to reflect on progress and reaffirm a shared commitment to building a fairer, healthier future for all.

Liverpool is a Marmot City, working collaboratively to reduce inequalities and improve health and wellbeing for everyone.
