Liverpool Recovery Month celebrates diverse recovery experiences 

The final week of Liverpool Recovery Month will explore how gender, sexuality, identity and lived experience can shape recovery. 

Events will bring residents together through coffee mornings, creative activities, films, walks and alcohol-free social events. The week will celebrate the strength and achievements of women, men, trans, non-binary and gender-diverse people, including people from Liverpool’s LGBTQIA+ communities. 

Everyone’s recovery journey is different. Trauma, discrimination, caring responsibilities and social expectations can affect someone’s wellbeing and make it harder to ask for help. Residents should be able to access compassionate support that respects who they are and responds to what matters to them. 

Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, said: 

“Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and understood when asking for help. 

“This week celebrates the strength of people across Liverpool and makes clear that recovery support is available to residents of every gender, sexuality, identity and background.” 

Professor Matthew Ashton, Director of Public Health for Liverpool City Council, said: 

“Recovery support should recognise the whole person. By listening to different lived experiences, services can provide compassionate support that helps people feel safe, understood and able to make their own choices.”
