Make sure you’re prepared for any emergency this September

Liverpool City Council is encouraging residents to take simple steps to become better prepared for emergencies by supporting this year’s 30 Days 30 Ways campaign.

Taking place throughout September, the month-long national initiative brings together more than 400 organisations from across the country with a shared goal of helping people build their resilience and preparedness.

Through practical advice, tips, and challenges, the campaign encourages individuals, families and communities to make small changes that could make a big difference in an emergency.

Whether it’s preparing for severe weather, power cuts, flooding, or pandemics such as the COVID-19 pandemic, 30 Days 30 Ways aims to give people the knowledge and confidence they need to respond when something goes wrong.

The campaign is run by the Emergency Planning Society, which brings together emergency responders, local authorities, academics, and organisations, to help build resilience within communities.

Throughout the month, the Council will be sharing top tips across their social media pages to help people prepare for some of the most common issues that happen within the city.

Anyone wanting to take part in daily challenges or listen to experts sharing their top tips during a weekly podcast can do so on the 30 Days 30 Ways website.

While the month-long campaign is aimed at preparing people for everyday emergencies, the Council must be prepared for a number of scenarios at any given time.

To support with this, it sits on the Merseyside Resilience Forum, alongside the police, fire and ambulance services, as well as organisations that look after transport and utilities.

The Forum works together year-round to make sure that any emergency that affects residents is responded to quickly and by the relevant bodies, helping to keep people safe.

Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins, Cabinet Member for Communities, Neighbourhoods and Streetscene said: “We never want emergencies to happen, but being prepared can help reduce their impact and give us greater peace of mind should the unexpected occur.

“Knowing what to do during a power cut, severe weather event, flood or other emergency can make a real difference.

“We work alongside emergency services, utility providers and other partners throughout the year to make sure we have the right plans, resources and support in place to respond quickly and effectively when incidents happen. Through our role on the Merseyside Resilience Forum, we are constantly working to help keep residents safe.

“The 30 Days 30 Ways campaign is a fantastic opportunity for people to learn more about the common emergencies that can affect our communities and pick up simple, practical tips to help you feel more prepared.”
