Temporary closures planned on Queens Drive for road improvement works

Drivers are being advised of temporary road closures on sections of Queens Drive to allow essential highway improvement works to take place.

There are currently two separate schemes of work running at the same time along Queens Drive to minimise the impact on residents and commuters.

The closures are needed to allow for all works to be carried out safely and efficiently along the road.

Childwall Fiveways to Walton Hall Avenue closures

The first set of closures will take place on parts of Queens Drive around Childwall Fiveways and Walton Hall Avenue. These are so that preventative treatment and road marking works can be carried out.

Surface dressing helps protect the road surface from wear and tear, extending its lifespan and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The following sections of Queens Drive will be affected:

  • Heywood Road to East Prescot Road (northbound only)
  • Alder Road to Mill Lane (northbound only)
  • Townsend Avenue to Utting Avenue (both directions)
  • Stanley Park Avenue North to Walton Hall Avenue (both directions)

Road closures will be in place on:

  • Monday 3 August
  • Monday 10 August
  • Tuesday 11 August to Friday 14 August

The preventative treatment can only be carried out during the daytime on the 3 and 10 August due to the materials involved. The work on Monday 10 August is weather dependent and may need to be delayed if the forecast changes unexpectedly.

The road marking works scheduled between 11 and 14 August will be carried out overnight to minimise the amount of disruption on this key route.

An excess of loose aggregate will be present on the road for a period after completion, which is normal for this process and will be removed by a suction sweeper when necessary. Please drive slowly and observe all temporary signs that will have been left in place. The road will be swept to remove the surplus aggregate within 48 hours of installation, and again within seven days.

South end closures

The second set of closures will take place on the South end of the road, near Sefton Park.

These are to allow for full resurfacing works to take place. The affected part of Queens Drive is between Aigburth Drive and Dovedale Road.

Road closures will take place from Monday 17 August and are due to be completed within two weeks.

Work in this area will take place overnight, which ensures that the work can be completed safely while avoiding the significant disruption that daytime road closures would cause to residents, businesses, commuters, and public transport users.

Minimising disruption

Residents living near the affected sections of road are advised that every effort will be made to minimise disruption.

While overnight works are due to be completed between 8pm and 6am for both schemes, the noisiest work will take place as early as possible in the evening, and machinery will be switched off when not in use.

Pedestrian access will be maintained wherever possible.

Drivers are encouraged to follow signed diversion routes or use alternative routes during the closures.

Liverpool City Council would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while these essential improvements are carried out.
