Education chiefs in Liverpool have applauded young people across Liverpool today as A-Level students receive their results – with GCSE results released on Thursday.
For the second year, schooling has been disrupted by Covid-19 and this year results have been determined by teachers.
In Liverpool, almost 2,400 students studied for A-levels in 2021 and 4,870 studied for GCSEs at 33 schools and colleges.
Any student needing guidance following their results is advised to contact their school or college.
Cllr Tom Logan, cabinet member for education and skills, said: “The last 18 months have been full of challenges for all of us – but none more so than for our young people.
“I have nothing but praise for all the students receiving results this week and for all the teachers who have done everything they can to keep life as ordinary as possible throughout these most extraordinary times.
“A special thank you also goes to all the families and carers who have found their homes turned into classrooms and done so much to support our young people through another disrupted year – this week’s successes owe a great deal to their encouragement and commitment as well.
“However, if you do not receive the results you were hoping for this week, understand that there is always help at hand. Please speak to your school or college in the first instance and they will support you to explore the opportunities that are open to you.”
Jonathan Jones, Liverpool’s Director of Education, said: “Everyone at Liverpool City Council would like to congratulate the students who collect their A-Level results today and our younger students who collect their GCSE results on Thursday.
“Like last year, there has been lots of disruption and uncertainty to young people’s learning. This makes the achievement and efforts even more impressive. It’s been a year where exams have been done completely differently so everyone involved deserves our admiration and thanks.
“There will be lots of different emotions this week as results are collected and those responses differ according to the next steps that each young person has chosen.
“Whatever next steps are taken, the city wishes you well.”
