IS someone you love living with dementia? Have you received a diagnosis yourself?
Then you’re invited to find out more about the condition and what support is available at a special event this weekend.
On Saturday, 20 November, Liverpool City Council’s Sedgemoor specialist dementia day service will be hosting a number of organisations and services which provide information, support and equipment.
Doors are open from 11am-4pm.
Organisations attending include:
- Mersey Care community mental health team
- Liverpool City Council mental health champion
- Liverpool SURF (Service User Reference Forum)
- Liverpool Lifehouse assistive technology
- Riverside assistive technology
- Bradbury Fields – services for blind and partially sighted people
- Admiral Nurse from the Royal British Legion.
There will also be a Dementia Friends session by the Alzheimer’s Society from 1.30-2.30pm.
National Museums Liverpool’s House of Memories On The Road experience, which launched earlier this year will also be on site.
On The Road is the UK’s first ever immersive mobile museum experience and offers people the sights and sounds of the past. People attending can enjoy a virtual trip on Liverpool’s overhead railway and visit a 1950s grocery shop.
- Sedgemoor day service is at 41 Sedgemoor Road, Liverpool L11 3BN.
Cllr Frazer Lake, cabinet member for adults’ and children’s social care, said: “Dementia is a condition that is touching more of our lives.
“The wonderful team at Sedgemoor, with its day centre and reablement care, do so much to support our loved ones who are living with this condition as well as their family and carers who support them.
“Whilst a diagnosis of dementia for many will be overwhelming, we have a wealth of services in the city that can give advice and support and this week’s event is a fantastic chance to speak to experts and get the reassurance that you need. Please head along and meet the Sedgemoor team and find out why we are so proud of them.”
Carol Rogers MBE, director of House of Memories, said: “We’re thrilled to bring House of Memories On The Road to Sedgemoor Day Service.
“On The Road is the first-ever immersive mobile museum experience in the UK, designed to create memorable experiences for vulnerable and socially isolated people and people living with dementia. Using digital technology, this fantastic experience recreates the sights and sounds of the past for visitors and we’re so excited for people to be able to experience it for themselves on 20 November.
“Along with On The Road, visitors will also have the chance to get involved in our House of Memories suitcases and discover the My House of Memories app, giving people the chance to explore all that House of Memories has to offer.”
