A simple pair of socks can make a bigger difference than you might think.
This Christmas, Liverpool City Council is asking residents and communities to help support young care leavers across the city by donating new, unopened socks as part of its Christmas Sock Appeal.
For many care leavers, Christmas can be a difficult time. While many people spend the festive season with family and friends, some young people leaving care may be living independently and without the support networks that others take for granted.
That’s why the Christmas Sock Appeal is collecting donations to help create festive gift packages for care leavers. Every donation will help make Christmas a little brighter for young people as they build independent lives.
Residents can support the appeal by donating new, unopened socks for young people and young adults, either at collection points across the city or by purchasing through the appeal’s Amazon Wishlist.

Councillor Liz Parsons, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “As corporate parents, our responsibility to young people doesn’t end when they leave care. Leaving care can be a challenging time, particularly during the festive season, and we want our care leavers to know that they are valued and supported as they move into adulthood. This appeal is a wonderful example of Liverpool’s community spirit, helping us bring a little extra warmth and kindness to young people across our city this Christmas.”
