Plans to upgrade facilities at Little Heath Playing Fields in Speke have been given the green light, marking an important milestone in a £400,000 investment into the popular community sports venue.
Liverpool City Council has developed the plans following feedback from clubs, players, and residents who use the playing field.
The £400,000 scheme will deliver a new changing room facility, new storage containers for equipment, and additional bathroom facilities for visitors.
The project is being funded through Section 106 contributions. This funding is money paid by developers as part of planning agreements to support local infrastructure and community facilities, ensuring that new developments also bring benefits to local areas.
The next stage of the project will see the Council begin the procurement process to appoint a specialist contractor to undertake the work, which is expected to start early next year.
To minimise disruption, the improvements will be delivered in phases, meaning the pitches will remain open and available for use throughout the works.
Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing, and Culture, said: “Little Heath is an important community space, which is used every week by both adult and youth football teams, so we’re delighted that planning permission has now been secured for these improvements.
“We have listened to the people who use the pitches and their feedback has helped shape plans that will make a real difference for players, coaches, volunteers and visitors.
“These upgrades will provide modern, fit-for-purpose facilities while ensuring the pitches remain open and accessible throughout the works.”
