People’s Emergency Briefing set for Liverpool screening

Liverpool City Council is inviting residents, partners and stakeholders to attend a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing at the Cunard Building later this month.

The event forms part of the council’s wider climate engagement programme and will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the challenges posed by climate change and nature loss, and what they could mean for communities in Liverpool.

The film aims to increase public understanding of climate and nature-related risks and encourage informed discussion about potential local and national responses.

The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion exploring how the city can continue to strengthen resilience and prepare for future environmental challenges.

The film draws on evidence presented during the National Emergency Briefing, bringing together leading UK experts to explain how climate change and nature degradation are already affecting everyday life, including impacts on health, infrastructure, the economy and local communities. It is designed to provide clear, evidence-based information and encourage informed public discussion about potential responses at both national and local level.

Liverpool City Council has an important role to play in helping the city respond to climate change through areas such as housing, transport, planning and infrastructure, while also supporting local resilience to issues including flooding and extreme heat.

The event will provide an opportunity for residents to engage in an open conversation about these challenges and how Liverpool can continue to adapt to a changing climate.

Following the approximately 50-minute screening, attendees will be invited to take part in a structured discussion focusing on local preparedness, resilience and long-term planning. The event is part of a wider UK programme of community screenings taking place throughout the summer.

Cllr Liam Robinson, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: “The impacts of climate change are already being felt in communities across the UK, which is why it is important that people have access to clear, evidence-based information and the opportunity to discuss what it means for Liverpool.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest in the future of our city to come along, watch the screening and take part in the conversation.”
