Work has begun this week on the third phase of improvements to Walton Breck Road and the surrounding area.
The latest phase of works, being delivered by Eric Wright on behalf of Liverpool City Council, will bring a number of upgrades designed to improve safety, accessibility and the overall experience for residents, businesses and visitors.
Almost £4 million has been invested in the scheme, with the final design shaped by community feedback gathered through a series of consultation events.
Residents’ views have directly influenced junction layouts and crossing locations within the project.
The improvements will include resurfaced roads and footpaths, upgraded pedestrian crossings and enhanced bus stop facilities. As part of the works, Back Rockfield Road will also be fully pedestrianised, creating a safer environment for people walking through the area.
Initial site surveys and planning work are now underway, with a series of temporary road and lane closures due to begin from Monday 10 August.
Closures will be delivered in phases to minimise disruption and are expected to remain in place until the completion of the project in March next year.
The planned closures and restrictions will be:
Walton Breck Road one-way closure (during the day time), with travel permitted heading from Kemp Avenue to Robson Street
- from Kemp Avenue to Robson Street: Monday 10 August 2026 to Thursday 11 March 2027
Walton Breck Road full road closure (during the day time)
- from Robson Street to Kemp Avenue: Thursday 11 March 2027 to Tuesday 30 March 2027 to complete carriageway resurfacing work.
Side road closures
- Back Rockfield Road: Monday 10 August to Monday 28 September
- Gilman Street: Wednesday 16 September to Wednesday 11 November
- Pulford Street: Wednesday 4 November to Thursday 28 January
This third phase follows earlier works carried out by Dowhigh and Cadent to undertake highways and gas network maintenance along the route.
